Yadkin Creek Tree Planting April 8th

The Yadkin Creek Watershed Coalition has scheduled its spring tree planting along the creek for Saturday, April 8. Coalition member Rob Viehman met with the Steelville City Council on March 20 to discuss work being done along the creek and the possibility of getting some flood control planning done by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “I just wanted to make you all aware that we will be planting trees again on April 8,” Viehman told the council. “We had trees donated again by Forest ReLeaf of Missouri and they must all be planted on city property, so we will be planting along the trail above...

Meramec River Telemetry Study

The Gateway Trout Unlimited Chapter has been collaborating with the MDC on a new telemetry study on the Red Ribbon Section of the Meramec River. Eighteen brown trout were inserted with electronic transmitters that allow MDC biologists to use active tracking and locate fish within 50 feet of the receiver. Three hydo phone recievers have been placed on the river to record data along with portable units that the biologists use. To date 16/18 fish have been found and early data shows the fish seem to stay within 200 yards of where they were stocked.It will be very interesting to study their...
